BONELOSS AND AUGMENTATION

 

There are two types of bone that exists within the dental jaws.
 

1. Base skeletal bone.
 

2. Alveolar bone. The alveolar bone is the bone that exists around the teeth.

When the teeth are removed the alveolar bone slowly resorbs away. This resorption is fastest in the first year and can have a significant effect on the timings of tooth replacement-bridges, dentures and implants.

BONE RESORPTION

 

Implants require bone volume – depth and width. Where these are inadequate, it may be possible to augment the spaces, helping the body regenerate the necessary supporting tissues.
 

These techniques have been honed over the years to produce highly predictable outcomes and have enabled implants to be used in more optimal positions as well as in areas previously unassailable.
